Monash Health Psychology and Specialist Services is seeking an enthusiastic senior clinician to join the Monash Medical Centre Neuropsychology Unit (06.EFT / 48 hours fortnight). This is an exciting role that offers exposure to a diverse range of neurological, medical and psychological conditions.

Psychology and Specialist Services (PsySS) provides a range of psychology services within the areas of Rehabilitation and Aged Care, Community Health, acute services, Agile Psychological Medicine Clinics, the Wellness and Recovery Centre (Centre of Excellence in the Treatment of Eating Disorders), and other Mental Health related programs. PsySS is sponsored by the Program Medical Director of Mental Health with a Director of Psychology, and two Deputy Directors (Psychology Services and Professional Partnerships).


About the Role


We are excited to announce a vacancy for a Senior Clinical Neuropsychologist position at the Neuropsychology Unit of Monash Medical Centre, Clayton. The position involves the provision of responsive, evidence-based neuropsychology service for adult inpatient and outpatients at Monash Health.


The position also provides secondary consultation to numerous teams and a broad range of relevant stakeholders regarding the formulation, treatment and management of patients with complex clinical presentations. Inpatient referrals are accepted from all acute wards (except mental health). Decision-making capacity assessments and pre-post neurosurgical/treatment evaluations are frequent referral requests. Referrals sources for outpatient appointments are wide ranging, but are predominantly received from Monash Health Neurosciences and the specialist clinics run by these units. Clinics include General Neurology, Cognitive, Stroke, Epilepsy, Movement Disorders, Deep Brain Stimulation, Multiple Sclerosis, Psychiatry/Neuropsychiatry, Brain Tumour, and Neurosurgery. The Neuropsychology Unit also leads the implementation of the Monash Health post-traumatic amnesia (PTA) in concussion/traumatic brain injury (TBI) procedure. This includes outpatient follow-up of mild TBI patients, in addition to education and training of staff about assessment and management of PTA. The Neuropsychology Unit works collaboratively with Medical, Nursing and Allied Health staff to enhance patient outcomes.


The Senior Clinical Neuropsychologist is responsible for:



  • Providing inpatient neuropsychology service to all acute medical and surgical units of Monash Health (not including Mental Health) at a senior level

  • Delivering high-quality and evidence-based diagnostic neuropsychological opinion for neurological, neurosurgical and neuro degenerative conditions

  • Generating expert opinion on decision-making capacity referrals, complex clinical case formulation, support with discharge planning and behaviours of concern

  • Provision of supervision for P2 staff and provisional psychologists (where applicable)

  • Contributing to service delivery, outcome measures and quality improvement initiatives


The position is well supported by two experienced Grade 4 neuropsychologists who work within the Unit.

What you need:



  • Post-graduate qualifications (Masters or Doctoral Degree) in clinical neuropsychology in an APAC accredited course

  • Endorsement in Clinical Neuropsychology through AHPRA

  • Supervisor endorsement (or eligibility toward endorsement) with the Psychology Board of Australia

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in the field of Clinical Neuropsychology at a minimum P2 (or equivalent) level

  • Experience working in acute inpatient services and outpatient neurology/diagnostic settings
