Senior Clinical Psychologist

 Sunshine Mental Health and Wellbeing Centre - Inpatient Units

  • Be involved in establishing a new psychology service within the adult acute inpatient units

Your new team:

The Sunshine Hospital Mental Health and Wellbeing Centre (SHMH&WC) is a new adult acute mental health precinct consisting of 52 new mental health beds (2 x 26 bed units) and Sunshine Adult Acute Psychiatric Unit (SAAPU) which is the existing 29 bed acute mental health unit. The new units are currently under construction and are due to become operational from July 2023. This project is referred to as the Pathway to 144 mental health beds (P144 project) and is part of the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System (RCVMHS) recommendations.

The Senior Clinical Psychologist will commence at Sunshine Adult Acute Psychiatric Unit (SAAPU) prior to transitioning into the new units when the service becomes operational. The Senior Psychologist will provide leadership and clinical expertise on the unit. The Senior Clinical Psychologist will be responsible for developing and implementing the new psychology service within SAAPU and the new mental health units. The position will work closely with the multidisciplinary team, in particular the allied health clinicians and peer workforce.

  • Join a supportive area-wide group of Clinical Psychologists and Clinical Neuropsychologists
  • Provide clinical expertise and leadership to ensure high quality care is delivered to consumers admitted to the unit
  • Deliver trans diagnostic psychological interventions in individual and group sessions
  • Engage with and support consumers, their families and their carers with developing and achieving optimal mental health
  • Share your advanced clinical expertise and be a part of a multidisciplinary team to support consumer recovery.

About you:

  • You have previous clinical experience and leadership in delivering mental health interventions, preferably in an acute setting.
  • Ability to provide clinical supervision to other Psychologists and Psychology students
  • Passionate about meeting the mental health and wellbeing recovery needs of mental health consumers and their families and carers
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Ability to engage and collaborate with consumers, families and carers in their mental health recovery planning
  • Strong commitment to own professional development
