About the facility

The Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) is responsible for delivery of specialist evidence based mental health assessments and treatments to women in the perinatal period, infants, children and young people up to 16 years. Specialist clinics are provided for perinatal, infant mental health and Autism Spectrum Disorders. The service also provides specialist training and consultation to other child and family services.

About you

  • Holds a formal qualification in Psychiatric Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Social Work or Clinical/Forensic/Neuro Psychology
  • A demonstrated advanced level of clinical skills in the assessment of and treatment of children and adolescents with emotional and behavioural disturbance
  • Demonstrated education and supervisory skills
  • Group therapy skills
  • Thorough knowledge of the objectives and provisions of the Mental Health act (1986) and its recent amendments
  • Experience in supervising students

About the role

Stemming from the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System, Barwon Health’s MHDAS has received funding to establish a group-based parenting program for families of children accessing our CAMHS service.

The parenting groups aim is to increase parents’ and carers’ skills and confidence to effectively identify and support the mental health and wellbeing of their children, and to effectively parent challenging behaviour.

As the successful applicant you will play a pivotal leadership role in the establishment of the new program.
