Senior Clinician - Mental Health Intensive Care Area Response (MHICAR)

Your new team

The Northern Psychiatric Inpatient Unit is located at The Northern Hospital in Epping. We are a busy and dynamic 50 bed service split over two units. Each unit is made up of a mix of low dependency and high dependency beds.

The Northern Area Mental Health Service (NAMHS) is an integrated network of mental health services providing psychiatric services to residents in the Cities of Darebin and Whittlesea. Services include: Acute In-patient Unit; Emergency Mental Health Service; Continuing Care Teams; Community Care Units; PARC and Specialist Services.

Your new role

  • Provide role modeling to all staff on the DHHS reducing restrictive interventions practice framework and participate in embedding it in the ward envionment.

  • Provide leadership to support staff wellbeing and reduce incidents of occupation violence and aggression.

  • Participate in MOCA training to be a credentialed foundation trainer.

  • Ensure direct reports recieve regular feedback and participate in annual  discussions. 

About You:

  • Extensive experience in Mental Health including Acute Inpatient Unit

  • Comprehensive experience in Nursing Leadership role (RPN3 or higher)

  • Knowledge and skills in Trauma-Informed Care, Sensory Modulation and Safewords

  • Experience in identifying precursors to occupational violence and preventative strategies

  • Demonstrated ability to proactively engage and provide clinical support to consumers experiencing  high levels of psychological distress

  • Ability to physically participate in being a credentialed MOCA (Management of Clinical Aggression) trainer.
