About Us
The Oasis Child Inpatient Unit, based in the Monash Children’s Hospital, provides specialist assessment and care planning for children aged up to 12 years, with neurodevelopmental disorders (such as Autism Spectrum Disorder or Intellectual Disability) and/or who show severe or complex psychiatric, behavioural and developmental symptoms that indicate need for a short term inpatient service.
A range of consultation services, brief emergency admissions, and planned assessment admissions are provided. The unit is part of the network of child and youth mental health services (CYMHS) provided across metropolitan and regional Victoria. Patient care is carefully planned and managed through collaboration with local CYMHS care teams and/or private psychiatrists to ensure an integrated and effective service, tailored to the individual needs of each child and family.
The Oasis Unit is a centre for excellence with an active clinical and research program that integrates and enhances knowledge from psychiatry, paediatrics, neurology, endocrinology, and other specialist medical and allied health services.

This is a truly exciting time for a Senior Clinician seeking to be a part of an innovative service with children, their families, and service providers.As a Senior Clinician in this specialist role, your clinical experience and expertise will endorse an inpatient culture and model of care that delivers exceptional care to children with neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders, and their families/carers. Excellent communication, time management and organisational skills are vital to ensure the goals of each child’s admission are achieved and families and children supported through their admission.
About you as a specialist Senior Clinician
You demonstrate excellent clinical skills in working with children and families who are in distress and face complex issues. You are dedicated to promoting their health and well-being through evidence-based individual and family interventions. You are collaborative and positive in your approach. You have experience in mental health care and knowledge of developmental psychiatry, autism, intellectual disability and other developmental disorders. You show interest and experience in research and evaluation and strive for service
