The Senior Communications Adviser, Energy is responsible for working with the Energy policy teams and Ministerial policy advisers to plan and implement proactive communication strategies. This includes assessing policy portfolio needs and providing strategic communication advice, solutions and response.

There is an exciting opportunity to join DELWP's Energy Communications team as it provides strategic communications support to the DELWP Energy team and the Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change. 

The Energy Communications team is part of DELWP's Digital and Customer Communications division, comprising strategic communications, media and social media, multimedia, graphic design and events support.

As Senior Communications Adviser in the Energy Communications team, you will be providing strategic communications support to the Energy Group, which aims to deliver sustainable, reliable and affordable energy to Victorians, including stimulating sector development, procuring and facilitating large-scale energy projects, setting strategic directions for the transition of Victoria's energy systems and markets, and ensuring a safe and reliable system through robust safety and emergency management processes.

The role requires a candidate with extensive communications, media and social media experience, to be able to provide strategic communications support to focused energy projects from conceptualisation to roll-out. The candidate should be an energetic self-starter with the ability to manage multiple priorities, and have excellent communication, stakeholder management and project management skills.  

The successful candidate will be a strong team player, with the flexibility to shift tasks and manage priorities to deliver other team outputs around strategic and operational planning and performance functions. The successful candidate will also be required to work flexible hours, including some weekends, to support the energy emergency management and State Control Centre emergency media roles.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Experience and a record of achievement in a range of communications disciplines, preferably in a government setting.
  • Extensive experience in managing high-profile relationships within a complex and politically sensitive environment
