Opportunity for a Senior Data Analyst to join a high-performing, agile and collaborative team that provides advice and support for priority activities across the Early Childhood Education Group's program and policy areas.

Role Context:

The Early Childhood Education Group (ECE) plays a key role in operational policy development, service program design and commissioning to ensure a child and family centred, outcomes focussed, integrated system. Together with the other groups in the Department of Education and Training (Department), ECE works to ensure that every child has the best start in life.

About the Role:

  • Full-time or Part-time, Ongoing role
  • VPSG5 classification
  • Hybrid work between Melbourne CBD location (subject to Chief Health Officer Directions) and remote working

Reporting into the Manager, Insights and Data Analytics, this role is part of a high-performing, agile and collaborative team that provides advice and support for priority activities across the ECE Group's program and policy areas. This role requires a proactive self-starter with innovative thinking, strong networking skills and an ability to work in a complex, sensitive and fast-paced environment with a high degree of autonomy. The role is responsible for a range of activities and projects, including compiling, analysing and interpreting data for reporting purposes, as well as contributing to innovation solutions into existing systems and ways of work. The role also entails other duties as required, including working flexibly on emerging priorities across the broader Department.

Key capabilities required for this role include:

  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills, including ability to make broader connections and draw strategic insights from data, such as identification of underlying trends and opportunities
  • Specialist expertise in linking, integrating and analysing large and complex data sets, especially in Excel
  • Demonstrated Accountability (VPS Values focus), taking responsibility for own work program and behaviour, proactively raising issues and finding solutions
  • Strong planning and organising skills, including ability to reprioritise and redirect efforts when faced with evolving strategic needs of the organisation
  • Ability to forge useful relationships with people across business areas, functions and organisations
  • Experience developing high quality, easily understood decision support product, including visual communications such as dashboards, PowerPoints or maps

Demonstrated experience using Tableau and advanced Google Analytics would be highly regarded.
