About North East Link

The North East Link Project will connect the missing link in Melbourne's freeway network, while increasing the capacity of the Eastern Freeway. It will slash travel times, get trucks off local roads and link key growth areas in the north and south-east.

About the opportunity

Be part of a transformative infrastructure project for Victoria, with an exciting role in the North East Link Project (NELP) Land, Planning and Environment team.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Environment and Sustainability, the Senior Ecologist is primarily responsible for overseeing the Tree Canopy Replacement Program. This role ensures the specified delivery package is compliant with federal, state, and local regulations and NELP obligations, while taking into consideration community expectations for these works.

As an experienced Ecologist with strong exposure to arboriculture, you'll work across multiple project packages, managing and advising on protected species salvage and relocation, native vegetation clearing and the tree planting program. You'll enjoy working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders as you deliver a program that will see over 30,000 new trees planted.

You'll use your strong knowledge of the relevant legislation to review and prepare technical documentation including assessments, management plans and environmental approvals. Your strong communication skills and attention to detail will allow you to provide informative and strategic advice to senior management and government departments on ecologic and arboriculture requirements for approvals process and compliance obligations.

Travel and time spent at a future site office will be requirement of this position.

About You:

It is anticipated the successful candidate will have:

  • Experience in the delivery of technical advice on complex ecological and arboriculture matters with demonstrable knowledge of the relevant legislation
  • Exposure to design drawings, GIS plans and Webmap applications
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Formal qualifications in a relevant discipline
