Senior Economic Geologist, Mineral Systems

• $127,467 - $170,579 (Plus Superannuation)

The Team

The position of Senior Economic Geologist, Mineral Systems forms a part of the Resources branch within the Forestry, Resources and Climate Change group.

The Resources Branch develops policy, programs and regulation to enable investment and generate jobs through the sustainable development of the State's earth resources, including extractives, minerals and petroleum.

The Role

The primary responsibility of the Senior Economic Geologist, Mineral Systems is to lead the design, implementation, and delivery of high-quality collaborative applied geoscience research programs to enrich our understanding of the mineral prospectivity associated with the rocks of Victoria. The Senior Economic Geologist provides authoritative evidence-based advice to inform government and external stakeholders, including industry and community.

The accountabilities of the role will include:

• Lead the design, implementation and delivery of original, innovative applied high-quality geoscience research programs, that leverage maximum benefit for enriching geoscience data and knowledge with the aim of being more predictive about the form and type of mineral systems and resulting mineral occurrences across Victoria.
• Apply a mineral systems approach to understanding the prospectivity of Victoria's rocks with a specific focus on understanding aspects related to geochemical and mineralogical footprints associated with mineralising process and the timing of geological events associated with mineralisation.
• Communicate expert technical advice in an authoritative manner to key internal and external stakeholders in both written and visual formats with the aim of attracting and fostering earth resource sector investment to Victoria.
• Drive innovation in the Victorian minerals sector through extensive collaboration with other experts in the field at research institutions, universities, industry, and other government agencies (State, Federal and International).
• Support technical research activities across the Geological Survey of Victoria through engagement and mentorship of technical staff in relation to geological systems analysis and economic geology.
