The position of Senior Employment Adviser forms a part of the Aboriginal Economic Development branch of the Employment and Inclusion Group. The Aboriginal Economic Development (AED) Branch leads work across the Department to support Aboriginal self-determination through employment and economic development. To this end, it is tasked with the redevelopment of the new Victorian Aboriginal Employment and Economic Strategy. The AED also lead the development of the Department's engagement strategy with Aboriginal communities through the Victorian Aboriginal Employment and Economic Council (Council).

This role is based in the Aboriginal Recruitment and Cultural Competency team. This role is responsible for supporting the implementation of the Aboriginal Recruitment and Career Development Strategy (ARCDS) and Aboriginal Staff Network for the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions. The ARCDS strengthens the departments Aboriginal employment outcomes and ensures that DJPR becomes an employer of choice. The Senior Employment Adviser will support the Manager to build the Departments' cultural competency and work within the Corporate Services teams to develop appropriate policies for recruitment and retention of its Aboriginal workforce.

Key accountabilities:

  1. Deliver high quality outcomes and timely initiatives and programs as part of the Aboriginal Recruitment and Career Development Strategy (ARCDS).
  2. Drive DJPR's success and achievement of strategic program goals including specific employment targets by delivering; advanced expertise, knowledge, monitoring and reporting.
  3. Develop the implementation of a range of department wide supports including the Barring Djinang Graduate program, supporting the Aboriginal Staff Network and identifying talent and career advancement of Aboriginal staff.
