Role: Senior Epidemiologist (until 31 December 2021)

Position Summary: 

  • Design, oversee and conduct epidemiological analysis, surveillance and reporting relating to COVID-19 in Healthcare settings.
  • Provide specialist technical advice relating to the surveillance and epidemiology of COVID-19 to the broader Data, Intelligence, Modelling and Epidemiology (DIME) group and relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain situational awareness of the evolving public health response issues relevant to the epidemiological cohort, and its place within the wider epidemic


  • Reporting to the Pod Lead, collaborate with a team of epidemiologists, project officers and data quality and surveillance officers to produce intelligence relating to specific cohorts of interest.
  • Design, oversee and conduct epidemiological analyses and compile evidence relating to the specific cohort.
  • Contribute to the design, development and enhancement of surveillance systems and accurate reporting of COVID-19 cases in healthcare settings and other key settings.
  • Provide regular updates on key epidemiological insights to the Cohorts Manager and Pod Leads.
  • Plan and prioritise work to ensure timely delivery of projects, communicating risks and issues to Pod Leads and the Cohorts Manager.
  • Support and develop capacity of junior epidemiologists within the team.
  • Liaise closely and maintain productive working relationships with the field epidemiology (Locations) team and other DIME team members to optimise the compilation of relevant evidence to inform the COVID-19 response.
  • Develop clear briefs on complex issues and provide recommendations for policy and programmatic response drawing on the intelligence arising from Cohort Pod activities.
  • Actively participate in Epidemiology and Analysis Team meetings and other meetings and project groups as required.
  • During peak operational periods, be willing to assist other Cohorts teams and work across the broader Epidemiological and Analysis team.
  • Ensure accurate and complete storage of all documents according to the departments records management policy.
