Role: Senior Epidemiologist, Epidemiology & Analysis (Locations) (Role until - 30 June 2021)

Position Summary: 

  • Provide epidemiological support and advice to the COVID-19 Division by conducting investigation, data analysis and reporting in relation to cases, contacts, outbreaks and transmission dynamics.
  • Maintain situational awareness of evolving epidemiological issues related to COVID-19 transmission within Victorian healthcare settings.

Responsibilities:

Analysis:

  • Reporting to the Locations Pod Leads, plan and conduct epidemiological investigations of COVID-19 infections and outbreaks in Victoria.
  • Analyse, transform, clean and interpret data related to COVID-19 cases, contacts and outbreaks using statistical software (either Stata or R) aswell as other programs including Power Bi and Excel.
  • Support the Pod Leads in responding to ad-hoc requests for informationand data related to epidemiological trends and patterns, from both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Produce regular team reporting products and proactively look for opportunities to adjust or improve these where possible.

Leadership:

  • Help guide the work of other Epidemiologists in the team in line withresearch questions and scope, identifying and supporting training needswhere required.
  • Attend team and other meetings to stay updated on issues anddevelopments relevant to the Locations Pod's remit.

Communication:

  • Communicate research findings and epidemiological concepts to arange of internal and external stakeholders using simple and engaging language as well as data visualisations.
  • Generate ideas about how to use data and insights to tell a story via written reports, slide presentations and verbally during meetings.
  • Provide regular updates on key epidemiological insights to Pod Leads, Managers and other stakeholders across the response.

Process:

  • Develop and maintain repeatable processes and protocols to facilitate high quality analyses by team members.
  • Keep accurate and complete records of work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records,information security, privacy and governance policies.
  • Provide clear and appropriately detailed handover notes to Pod Leads and other team members when necessary.
