About the role:

As the successful applicant, you will be an integral team member within the Financial Accounting & Compliance Branch in providing high quality accounting and financial services across the organisation.  The focus is on general and asset accounting, variance analysis including the preparation of monthly/annual financial reporting.  You will require excellent time management, general accounting, analytical and financial reporting skills.  This role requires a high level of engagement with internal and external stakeholders.  The applicant must also have superior writing skills.  The Senior Finance Officer will report to the Unit Manager.

Your duties will include:

• Maintenance of the Fixed Assets Register in Oracle Assets system
• Maintenance of the Work-in-Progress (WIP) account in Oracle Project Accounting system
• Coordinating with the various stakeholders as required
• Engagement with internal stakeholders which includes but not limited to working with Shared Services, Business Partnering, Central Budgeting & Reporting, Operational Infrastructure Department and IT Department (Information, Systems and Security Command).
• Engagement with external stakeholders which includes but not limited to Department of Justice & Community Safety (DJCS), Department of Treasury & Finance (DTF), Victoria Auditor-General Office (VAGO) and specialised technical advisors
• Conducting research and providing inputs on accounting/financial reporting issues
• Working as part of a collaborative team
• Reporting monthly results to DTF via their reporting management system
• Able to manage and supervisor junior team members
• Ability to manage ad hoc projects, when required, to a successful conclusion.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

• A sound knowledge and application of the following: Experience in preparing Annual Financial Statements; and
  • Fixed Assets and Work-in-Progress accounting
  • accounting principles & standards;
  • financial reporting requirements;
  • internal controls on financial processes; and
  • relevant financial principles, regulations, policies, procedures and processes associated with a large organisation
• A sound knowledge and understanding of the Financial Management Act 1994 Victoria, Financial Reporting Directions, Financial Reporting Operations Framework and Resource Management Framework.

Requirements and relevant information:

• A tertiary degree in accounting, finance or commerce; and
• After office hours work may be required.
• The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head.  To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
• The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.

*Your usual place of work will be within the Financial Services Department, Financial Accounting and Compliance Branch; however, you may be required to work in other branches within the Corporate Finance Department as required.
