The SSP Finance team is looking for an experienced Senior Financial Analyst (VPS5) to join its team on an ongoing, full-time basis. The responsibilities of this role will primarily focus on providing specialised financial and accounting advice and ensuring timeliness, accuracy and compliance with relevant government legislation and directives, accounting standards, and DTF policies and procedures.

The Shared Service Provider (SSP) is part of the Victorian Government's commitment to a whole of government approach to the provision of shared corporate services.

The SSP Finance team supports the delivery arms of SSP, performing service costing, budgeting, board reporting, monitoring cash balances, and ensuring timely invoice payments and receipts. It also manages strong working relationships with all client departments, external vendors, the Victorian Auditor-General's Office, DTF Corporate Finance and other divisions, among others.

About the role

The SSP Finance team is looking for an experienced Senior Financial Analyst (VPS5) to join its team on an ongoing, full-time basis. The responsibilities of this role will primarily focus on providing specialised financial and accounting advice and ensuring timeliness, accuracy and compliance with relevant government legislation and directives, accounting standards, and DTF policies and procedures.

Key accountabilities:

  • Identify and work collaboratively to implement system improvements and the ongoing development and refinement of the management reporting processes, and the financial control environment
  • Liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders and ensure a high level of client service. Constructively work to resolve issues or escalate where required
  • Along with other senior finance staff, lead the implementation of critical projects that develop and review policies, professional standards and operating practices that enhance service delivery, budget effectiveness and improved client outcomes
  • Contribute to complex research and analysis work, as well as reporting of major strategic initiatives or issues relating to service delivery and the use of Government and Departmental resources
  • Provide a high level of customer service and assist other staff when required, often using own judgement and knowledge to solve service delivery problems, and continually seek ways to improve service delivery to stakeholders

About you

To be considered for this role, you must demonstrate the following: 

  • Broad financial technical knowledge and high-level financial accounting capability with demonstrated expertise in current Australian Accounting Standards, and government sector financial management legislation and compliance frameworks
  • High level of proficiency in summarizing data analysis with the ability to communicate this accurate and timely advice to senior managers to assist decision making
  • Well-developed interpersonal, negotiation and relationship management skills
  • Demonstrated achievement in leading or coordinating projects which required collaborative work in a team environment
  • Experience in managing and growing team members (or direct reports), including supporting them through change
  • Demonstrated initiative and judgement in proactively identifying emerging issues and leading the process to progress solutions.

A tertiary qualification accounting as well as membership of a recognised professional accounting body (CPA or CA) are essential for this role.
