Job Description
The Role
Development Victoria has a newly created opportunity for a dedicated and collaborative Senior Heritage Manager to join our growing team. We are committed to promoting best practice cultural heritage management and this position will play a pivotal role in embedding our organisation wide commitment to First Peoples partnerships.
Reporting to the Director, First Peoples Partnerships, the Senior Heritage Manager will provide expert advice on Cultural Heritage and Native Title management, including approvals, compliance, and Traditional Owner engagement. This expertise will ensure the successful delivery of our projects spanning civic infrastructure, precincts, and property developments.
In addition to offering internal advice and support, your work will be crucial in building genuine partnerships with Traditional Owners and Registered Aboriginal Parties across Victoria on cultural heritage matters. You will foster positive relationships with various stakeholders, including Registered Aboriginal Parties, Aboriginal community groups, statutory authorities, and the State Government.

Core Accountabilities:
- Provide authoritative expert advice on Aboriginal heritage, historic heritage, Native Title, and Traditional Owner engagement for projects.
- Lead the development and implementation of a cultural heritage management framework across Development Victoria
- Build effective relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Support the procurement and management of heritage consultants.
- Gather and analyse data to identify opportunities for improvement and respond to emerging issues and reforms.
- Collaborate with the Legal & Advisory team and contribute to the development of skills and knowledge within the First Peoples Partnerships team.
Desired Skills and Experience
About You
- Tertiary qualification in archaeology, heritage management or a related discipline.
- Relevant industry experience, including in engaging with Registered Aboriginal Parties
- Demonstrated experience working on projects in the built environment.
- Experience in influencing and collaboration to create successful results
- Ability to demonstrate leadership and instil confidence in partners within Traditional Owner groups and First Peoples communities more broadly, and well as within the DV team
- Ability to establish and maintains relationships and trust with people at all levels
