Senior Industry Project Officer

  • $101,120- $120,838 plus superannuation

The Industry Project Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the delivery of a range of initiatives to rebuild and strengthen the tourism industry and its workforce, to support high quality visitor experiences across Victoria.

The Group

The Creative, Sport and Visitor Economy Group works to strengthen Victoria's reputation as Australia's leading cultural, sport, racing, tourism and events destination, and ensure the best cultural and sporting experiences are accessible to everyone. Our group incorporates Creative Victoria, Sport and Recreation Victoria, Office for Women in Sport and Recreation, Office of Racing, Public Events, and Tourism, Events and Visitor Economy.

The TEVE Branch

The Tourism, Events and Visitor Economy team:

  • Provides Research and policy development across the Victorian Visitor Economy;
  • Develops key strategies and policies and thereby establishes charters and business directions of the key Visitor economy entitles such as Visit Victoria, Australian Grand Prix Corporation, and Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre; and
  • Negotiates and liaises with the Commonwealth Government on key policy issues which affect the tourism industry (eg aviation policy, visa, skilled migration policies and programs; airline access, etc and supports the Victorian Minister in relation to the Commonwealth-State Tourism Ministers Meeting.

The Recovery and Reform Unit

The Recovery and Reform Unit is newly established with responsibility to deliver strategic policy reform funded through the 2020-21 Budget to drive the recovery of Victoria's visitor economy. The team is responsible for:

  • Destination planning, including the development of a state-wide masterplan
  • Reform of Regional Tourism Boards
  • Industry development and workforce capability building.

Reporting to the Manager, Tourism Industry Development, within the (DJPR) Tourism, Events and the Visitor Branch, you will work with the Industry Development team to deliver initiatives such as increasing the digital and business capabilities of tourism businesses and creating a roadmap towards a resilient and innovative visitor economy for the state of Victoria.

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • Strong knowledge of Government processes, governance standards, policies and programs including knowledge of the key issues confronting the tourism sector in Victoria, and public sector governance and change management.
  • Project management: Consults, liaises with and influences key stakeholders; Produces detailed project plans where objectives are clearly defined and action steps for achieving them are clearly specified; Monitors performance against objectives and manages project risks and issues; Ensures project objectives are met.
  • Conceptual and analytical ability: including an ability to structure problems, analyse data and communicate solutions to decision-makers and has creative ideas and can project how these can link to innovations. This requires excellent written, visual and verbal communication skills including the development of reports, PowerPoint presentations and diagrams, submissions and briefings that are concise and engaging.
  • Stakeholder influence and negotiation: Gains agreement to proposals and ideas; Builds relationships and behind-the-scenes support for ideas to ensure buy-in and ownership; Uses chain of indirect influence to achieve outcomes; Involves experts or other third parties to strengthen a case.
  • Teamwork: Cooperates and works well with others in the pursuit of team goals; Collaborates and shares information; Shows consideration, concern and respect for others' feelings and ideas.
