Opportunity to join the Broadmeadows office in the role of Senior Lawyer.

  • Full time (part time considered) maximum term position up to 12 months
  • Salary commensurate with experience, range: $91,334 - $114,165 (pro rata) plus superannuation

About the role:
In this role you will act as an advocate providing high-quality legal services, casework, duty lawyering, and advice to clients across the North Western Suburbs region. As a Senior Lawyer you will also work on more complex matters and help to supervise, train and mentor less experienced Lawyers in the team.

You will assist with the development and implementation of policies and strategies regarding the delivery of legal aid services and contribute to other VLA and community legal education projects as required.

The role available has a focus on child protection and family violence matters. Lawyers with child protection and family violence intervention order experience are encouraged to apply.

About you:
You will have substantial knowledge or practical experience in child protection and family violence and intervention order matters. You will also demonstrate the capacity to work as an advocate and case worker in complex legal matters. You will also be able to provide strategic advice on legal and policy issues and demonstrate an understanding of the role of external stakeholders in the delivery of legal aid services.

Crucial to your success in this role will be your excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders at all levels. You will be a team player with the ability to work collaboratively to foster a cooperative and supportive team environment. You will also demonstrate an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
