As a Senior Lawyer you will play a key role within the VBA Legal Services' Litigation & Enforcement team, supporting the Assistant General Counsel and Managing Legal Counsel with the effective coordination and provision of robust legal advice to support the VBA's litigation and enforcement functions.

This position partners closely with client groups across the VBA and provides authoritative legal advice on a wide range of prosecutions, disciplinary proceedings, litigation, cladding and administrative law matters to internal stakeholders, legal professionals and related Boards. Where required, the Senior Lawyer exercises the VBA's legislative powers, appearing on behalf of the VBA and related Boards before Federal and Victorian courts of all levels, the AAT, VCAT, coronial inquests, tribunals and related forums.

Who we are looking for

  • Admission to the legal profession in an Australian jurisdiction (that is, an Australian lawyer) and current Victorian or interstate practising certificate (unrestricted).
  • Proven experience advising on complex matters of statutory interpretation and administrative law in a government context.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage, manage and influence stakeholders
  • Demonstrated understanding of the building and plumbing legislative framework or evidence of your ability to quickly and effectively acquire and apply this knowledge.
  • Ability to be a team-player, collaborate and understand the importance of building a brand.
