About the Opportunity

The Office of the General Counsel provides legal, legislative, commercial and policy advice and support to the Secretary and Department in the achievement of the transport system vision, objectives and decision-making principles. The Senior Lawyer, Operations is expected to deliver high quality client service and timely, clear and pragmatic legal advice and related services. This position will undertake a wide variety of work across the Office of the General Counsel.

Key Accountabilities

• Provide high quality advice on a wide range of legal issues relating to commercial and operational matters.
• Draft and review a range of legal documentation, including commercial, property and construction agreements.
• Establish and maintain strong partnerships with relevant stakeholders.
• Identify and escalate as necessary potential legal risk to the Department.
• Undertake high level research and analysis of complex legal and policy issues and prepare reports, briefs and correspondence on legal issues and proposals at an advanced level.

About You

• Experience providing high quality advice on legal issues in the transport context relating to commercial and operational matters.
• Demonstrated research and analytical skills with the ability to prepare and manage strategies for legal matters and deliver robust and viable solutions.
• Experience in negotiation, drafting legal advice and a wide range of documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to liaise effectively and work collaboratively at senior levels across Government.
• Well-developed communication, organisation and negotiation skills with ability to work within tight and often conflicting deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability to work constructively and effectively with minimal supervision and in a team environment, and to plan and prioritise tasks and manage strict timelines.
• Admitted, or eligible to be admitted, as a lawyer in Victoria. Experience in planning law and construction and transport interface agreements (Desirable)
