Job Description

The Role

Reporting to the Executive Director of Corporate Affairs, the successful candidate will act as the key liaison between internal and external stakeholders, playing a crucial role in positioning our work in alignment with government policy.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Spearhead our media strategy while nurturing strong internal and external relationships to streamline communication and address challenges.
  • Serve as the initial point of contact for media interactions and inquiries.
  • Collaborate with various teams and government entities to develop compelling messages and media stories.
  • Devise and execute an integrated media and content strategy across diverse channels.
  • Identify proactive media opportunities and cultivate compelling stories from within the organisation.
  • Manage media queries, coordinating timely responses and interacting with ministerial media advisors.
  • Evaluate and report on media achievements and activities.
  • Provide expert counsel on media matters to Development Victoria leadership.
  • Develop high-impact media materials including releases, speeches, presentations, and pitches.
  • Conduct media training sessions as needed.

Desired Skills and Experience

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree or postgraduate degree in journalism, public relations or communications
  • Previous experience in communications, corporate affairs, issues management, media management or journalism   - preferably in the property sector and/or government 
  • Proven experience in strategic media relations and content creation.
  • An understanding of the political environment in which Development Victoria operates. 
  • Strong understanding of government policies and their alignment with organisational goals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to identify compelling stories within complex subject matter.
  • Detail-oriented with a keen eye for accuracy.
  • Demonstrated skill in managing media queries and responding under pressure.
  • Collaborative mindset with proficiency in building relationships.
  • Prior experience in media training and stakeholder engagement preferred
