As a pivotal member of our Media and Communications division, you will play a crucial role in elevating the profile and reputation of Museums Victoria's Research Institute, activities, exhibitions, and events.

Your Role:

As a Senior Media and Communications Officer, you will work under the guidance of the Senior Manager, Media and Communications, to develop and execute strategic communication and public relations campaigns. Working in parallel with the Marketing team as part of an integrated department of specialists, your primary goal will be to drive visitation and enhance the positive reputation of Museums Victoria's diverse portfolio, including our Research Institute, exhibitions, and programs.

 

What You'll Do: 

  • Collaborate with the Senior Media and Communications Manager to conceive, research, and implement innovative media and communications strategies that spotlight Museums Victoria's expertise, Research Institute, exhibitions, and activities across various owned and earned channels.
  • Foster strong, collaborative relationships with media outlets, external stakeholders, and internal teams to champion Museums Victoria's communication goals and campaign objectives.
  • Craft compelling media materials such as press releases, media kits, internal briefings, speech notes, photography, and video content that tell our story with creativity and impact.
  • Contribute to comprehensive post-campaign assessments and reporting to measure campaign effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Coordinate engagement activity including media calls, events, outside broadcasts, and previews, contributing to the creative direction of stakeholder and partner events to align with communication and advocacy strategies.
  • Play a key role in supporting the development of proactive and reactive crisis management messages, preparing briefing notes, FAQs, and process documents to ensure consistent and effective communication.
  • Support departmental and team objectives, actively engage in organisational initiatives, and contribute to a thriving team culture.
  • Adhere to Museums Victoria's policies, procedures, and relevant regulations to ensure operational compliance.

 

 Who You Are:

  • A seasoned communicator with a proven track record in building robust media and stakeholder networks within a rapidly evolving media landscape.
  • A creative storyteller with superior writing, editing, and content creation skills, capable of transforming complex information into captivating narratives tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Detail-oriented and skilled at juggling tasks under tight deadlines, producing high-quality content that resonates.
  • A diplomatic and sensitive professional capable of managing culturally or politically sensitive material with tact and risk awareness.
  • An independent worker and a collaborative team player, adept at thriving both autonomously and within cross-functional teams.
  • Tertiary qualified in public relations, communications or a related field, along with a minimum of 3-5 years relevant work experience in a similar role. Alternatively, you might have an equivalent combination of professional and lived experience.
  • Committed to upholding high ethical standards, and willing to undergo a National Police Records Check and Working with Children Check.

Other Information:

This role is a full-time, ongoing position. The salary on offer is $83, 333 per annum (base of grade) plus 11% superannuation.
