About the Role

A core service of State Trustees is protecting the financial and legal interests of thousands of Victorians who are unable to manage their own affairs because of mental illness, injury or disability.

  • Completes complex and extensive reconciliations of bank accounts/other financial assets, investigates and gathers information and provides a brief to our internal legal area or external legal panel where applicable
  • Manage a legal or complex issue end to end where no litigation is applicable
  • Managing interjurisdictional legal and complex issues via registration of Orders in respective jurisdiction
  • Research and understanding of applicable legislation to an issue
  • Ensures all legal matters are proactively progressed and documented
  • Communicating with clients and their families
  • Managing complex client circumstances and/or requirements
  • Attend VCAT hearings, mediations and at times Court (with solicitor support)

Skills and Experience

  • Passionate about making a difference to the lives of Victoria's most vulnerable people
  • Ability to make decisions whilst showing empathy and compassion
  • Active listening skills & well-developed professional communication skills
  • Ability to have difficult conversations whilst being sensitive to client needs
  • Experience working with complex cases which require significant support
  • Ability to prepare commercial standard legal correspondence, reports and recommendations
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills
  • Knowledge of the Guardianship and Administration Act 1986 and 2019 highly regarded
  • A legal qualification is not required.
