Senior Policy Officer

The position of Senior Policy Officer forms a part of the Industry Development and Participation Branch in the Jobs, Innovation and Business Engagement Group.

Our group works to build trust-based relationships with Victorian businesses, from global enterprises to small businesses and start-ups, to achieve job outcomes that strengthen our economy. We do this by facilitating and enabling new investments, developing and attracting world class talent, supporting key industry capabilities, building on the state's reputation for innovation and advocating for a competitive and fair business environment that creates more jobs.

This team is responsible for developing and coordinating the implementation of strategies and initiatives to support Victorian manufacturers grow, create more job opportunities, and become leaders in innovation. The sector team provides a key interface with industry stakeholders and other government agencies. 

Reporting to the Director Industry Participation key accountabilities of the role include:

  • Progress delivery of policy, strategy and initiatives related to sector development across manufacturing, transport and construction.
  • Undertake advanced policy research and analysis, including investigating and critically analysing issues and opportunities relating to industry development and economic recovery.
  • Initiate, maintain and manage the Department's relationship with critical internal and external stakeholders by working in close partnership with key government, industry and academic stakeholders and businesses, to support the Victorian Government's economic development agenda.
  • Conduct investigations and research to provide high level authoritative advice to senior executives, based on a detailed knowledge and understanding of industry trends and their impacts on Victoria's priority sectors and economic development.
  • Prepare specialist advice for Ministers and senior executives on Victoria's relationships with priority sectors and key strategic markets, and stakeholders.

This position has lead responsibility for developing industry strategies and policy and providing departmental and government coordination and responses specific to sectors across the economy.
