Senior Policy Officer, Aboriginal Programs

For the purpose of employment in Aboriginal Designated or Aboriginal Prioritised positions within the Victorian public sector, candidates will be asked to provide Confirmation of Aboriginality. This can be confirmed by a Confirmation of Aboriginality form signed by an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation and affixed with the common seal of that organisation. Recognising that access to formal Confirmation of Aboriginality documents can occasionally be problematic, an alternative process can be discussed.

The Role

The Senior Policy Officer, Aboriginal Programs will provide strategic support to the Manager, Aboriginal Programs contributing to the design and delivery of key initiatives. The role will engage with both Aboriginal community, state sport and recreation organisations and work across government agencies to increase access and maximise opportunities for Aboriginal Victorians to participate in sport and active recreation.

The role works collaboratively and in partnership with other sections of the department, state sporting associations, state sport and recreation bodies, and other key stakeholders. The role also has a focus on building internal capacity around Aboriginal cultural awareness.

Key accountabiltiies:

  1. Provide high quality strategy and policy development advice on Victorian sport and active recreation initiatives to increase Aboriginal participation.
  2. Provide authoritative advice to internal and external stakeholders and prepare and present detailed reports, complex ministerial briefs, ministerial correspondence and event briefs, cabinet and agency submissions on complex matters and communicate issues and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders.
  3. Project manage and participate in project teams responsible for the development, implementation and effective delivery of sport and active recreation policy initiatives and programs that increase opportunities for Aboriginal Victorians to participate in sport and active recreation.

The Team

The position of Senior Policy Officer, Aboriginal Programs forms a part of the Sport and Recreation Victoria  within the Sport, Tourism and Events group.

Sport, Tourism and Events (STE) is comprised of Sport and Recreation Victoria (SRV) and Tourism and Events (T&E). SRV aims to create greater sport and active recreation participation opportunities for all Victorians in order to maximise economic, social and health benefits and enhance Victoria's liveability.

  • Able to prepare reports, briefings and accurate responses to correspondence?
  • Able to communicate in a sensitive and respectful manner with stakeholders and all levels of management?
