About Us

Gaming and Liquor advises the Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gaming and Liquor Regulation on the development and implementation of liquor and gambling legislation and regulation, and on current and emerging liquor and gambling-related issues.

Gaming and Liquor is responsible for delivering and further developing the Victorian Government's strategic response to liquor and gambling issues. Gaming and Liquor is the primary government point of reference for industry, community and government on liquor and gaming issues. Gaming and Liquor sits within the Consumer Affairs, Liquor, Gaming and Dispute Services group.

About the Role

As a Senior Policy Officer, you will be responsible for undertaking a broad range of activities relating to policy and legislative development on complex matters, including the preparation of high-level briefings for senior management and the Minister. You will also be required to produce key policy outputs, cabinet submissions, briefings, drafting instructions and so on, as well as developing policy proposals, including proposals of a complex nature, using knowledge of structures, processes and culture of government, the Department and the relevant regulatory and commercial environments.

This role can be worked flexibly or part-time by negotiation.

About You

As our ideal candidate, you will possess the following:

  • A demonstrated policy development capability, including the ability to achieve objectives within tight timeframes, and actively engage internal and external stakeholders
  • Sound judgement and awareness of the political context
  • A strong ability to use leadership and expertise to effectively address stakeholder issues, influencing others to identify opportunities and broker long-lasting solutions
  • Demonstrated experience in policy development, research and review, formulation, and implementation based on good organisational knowledge and understanding of current issues, resulting in a strong ability to effectively address strategic, environmental and operational requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications or experience in a relevant field will be well regarded.
