About us

The Department of Justice and Community Safety is responsible for the supervision of children and young people in the criminal justice system.

Youth Justice is responsible for overseeing services responding to these children and young people, providing strategic advice and delivering outcomes to address youth crime and reduce offending.

A significant program of reform is underway to build a safe, effective and stable Youth Justice workforce.

About the role

In this role, you will be part of a team working within a complex and dynamic environment, responsible for leading the development and implementation of key workforce reform initiatives, targeted at both the Youth Justice community and custodial based workforces. These reforms will provide a significant contribution to building a safe, effective and stable Youth Justice system.

The Senior Program Officer – Workplace Reform, will support the planning, implementation and monitoring of high profile, high priority workforce initiatives, including the delivery of an end to end workforce plan and the introduction of a vocational qualification for youth justice custodial staff.

In this role, you will also contribute to the development of key policy and project documentation, including high quality briefings for senior executives.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • prior experience planning, monitoring and delivering complex service development projects.
  • proven experience in managing projects in an agile working environment, with a commitment to monitoring and reporting, tracking risks and suitably escalating issues.
  • sound judgement, the ability to develop and maintain effective key stakeholder relationships, using influence and negotiation skills to support the provision of clear advice and effective, timely actions.
  • the ability to understand new subject matter quickly, demonstrate appropriate initiative, and write accurate, timely and audience-appropriate documentation
  • sound knowledge of and/or experience in Victorian government administrative processes.
  • knowledge and/or experience relating to the youth justice environment and trending issues is desirable but not essential. 

A tertiary level qualification in a relevant field is desirable.
