Position Summary:
As part of the new Suicide Prevention and Response Office, the Senior Project Officer – Lived Experience will bring lived experience of suicide perspectives to the design and implementation of new programs and initiatives that respond to the Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System's recommendations to strengthen Victoria's suicide prevention and response efforts. This will involve leading and participating in a range of activities within the Mental Health and Wellbeing Division, representing a lived experience of suicide perspective, and advocating for and facilitating engagement with others who have a lived experience of suicide.
The role is a critical part of the response to specific recommendations from the Royal Commission, including that the new Mental Health and Wellbeing Division employs people with lived experience in multiple, substantive positions, including leadership positions.
In line with the Royal Commission's final report, lived experience of suicide includes experience of suicidal behaviour (suicidality/suicidal ideation), experience as a family member or carer of a person experiencing suicidality, or a lived experience of bereavement by suicide.
