  • Lead and manage planning to support the delivery of the strategic fuel breaks program
  • Deliver planning requirements for a flagship government project
  • Location: Negotiable-Flexible (statewide) Establish and lead the strategic direction to enable comprehensive planning across the Strategic Fuel Breaks program whilst minimising impact on environmental and heritage values.

The Strategic Fuel Breaks and Mechanical works program received significant investment that will support community and asset protection and provide strategic advantage for planned burning and fire control operations in the context of a rapidly changing climate.

The Senior Project Officer – Planning will lead and manage planning to support the delivery of the statewide Strategic Fuel breaks and Mechanical works (SFB) program.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification or relevant experience in natural resource management, environmental science or public policy desirable, as is experience in the planning and delivery of civil works or similar in a public land management setting.
  • Knowledge and experience working with legislation, policies and management procedures relevant to native vegetation removal on public land.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with an ability to facilitate dialogue and to understand and adapt to different situations.

This is a fixed term position available until 30 June 2022. The successful applicant may request to work from any DELWP office location, subject to negotiation and COVID-Safe transitional arrangements.

The departmentplays a major role in Victoria's emergency response activities, through an all-hazards, all-emergencies approach. Staff undertaking these roles have been quarantined from performing emergency management roles and participation in planned burning operations.
