The newly established First Peoples - State Relations Group in DPC is seeking talented and passionate individuals committed to progressing the Victorian Government's nation leading work with First Peoples.

This is a unique opportunity to work in new and innovative ways that recognise First Peoples as the self-determining drivers of Aboriginal affairs in Victoria. This role will contribute to the ground-breaking work of the Group in the areas of truth, treaty, self-determination and cultural rights.

The First Peoples - State Relations Group is responsible for nation leading work in the areas of cultural rights, self-determination, treaty and truth - an extensive program of priority work with First Peoples.

We recognise Victoria's First Peoples as the self-determining drivers of Aboriginal affairs in Victoria. We are committed to building ongoing, just and respectful relationships between self-determining First Peoples and the State as a priority focus.

About the role

As the Senior Project Officer, you will deliver a range of programs and projects with Traditional Owners, including:

You will work collaboratively with a small team of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal staff dedicated to working with Traditional Owners to support self-determination.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have experience working with Traditional Owners in Victoria, and in engagement and facilitation, project management, and research and report writing.

An ability to build relationships, communicate effectively and take initiative is also essential in this role.

An understanding of strength-based engagement and therapeutic / holistic approaches, as well as a demonstrated understanding Aboriginal self-determination, formal recognition and treaty processes, will be highly regarded.
