80 hours per fortnight with monthly ADO

Up to $25,000 incentive payments may be available to support relocation
(Be reimbursed for rent, childcare, school fees, relocation costs and more). The Victorian Government has allocated funds to support rural and regional Area Mental Health Services (AMHS) to provide incentives to attract workers to roles that are difficult to fill.
The new workforce relocation and incentive grants program is being administered by Rural Agency Workforce Victoria (RWAV).

About the role

The role of the Senior Psychiatric Nurse (SPN) is to provide professional and clinical leadership of mental health nursing practice. The SPN is responsible for leading the Mental Health Learning and Development team to ensure the delivery, evaluation and review of professional development.

The role of the SPN will assist the Director of Nursing - Mental Health to

  • Develop, review and coordinate mental health nursing governance and workforce strategy that aligns with the Workforce Capability Framework (2015).
  • Ensure that the philosophy and professional standards of mental health nursing practice consistently align with the Framework for Recovery Orientated Practice (2011).


Key Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for the coordination of the professional development, education and training program within the Service to facilitate recovery-oriented practice
  • Demonstrate and share expert mental health nursing knowledge and skills across Grampians Health and act as a resource for mental health nurses and other stakeholders across the service
  • Perform an active professional leadership role in workforce planning with a focus on staff development in relation to the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health system and subsequent transformational recommendations.
  • Monitor the service environment, nursing practice and models of care to ensure high levels of clinical nursing standards are established and sustained
  • Support and guide implementation of service wide and sector wide improvement activities
  • Perform an active professional leadership role in workforce planning and development with a focus on staff development wellbeing and sustainability


Skills and experience

  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Div. 1
  • Postgraduate qualifications in psychiatric/mental health nursing
  • Completed or working towards a Certificate 4 Training and Assessment or equivalent
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the RPN profession and considerable proficiency in art of management in a substantive role

This position is paid in accordance with the Victorian Public Mental Health Services Enterprise Agreement. The classification is Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 6 (NP61) which is $69.79 per hour
