About Mental Health at Monash Health

The Mental Health program aims to deliver high quality mental health care to people living in the South Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne and is one of the largest mental health programs in Victoria delivering services across the lifespan.

The Mental Health Program is organised into the following and each has a designated Operations Director and Unit Head working in partnership together and have Operational Managers and local Team Managers across all services within the program:

About the Role

As the Service Director for Adult and Older Adult, Mental Health Program Monash Health you will work closely with both the Program Director and General Manager of Mental Health Program as well as the Service Director for Infant, Child, Family and Youth with accountability for the effective management and leadership of the Mental Health Program and delivery of mental health services across sites. The Service Director will be an essential member of the Monash Mental Health Leadership team and having a key role across clinical services and medical workforce development and wellbeing. In addition they will be asked to facilitate and be involved in major clinical or redesign projects as required to meet the Programs strategic objectives.

The establishment of the role of Service Director of Monash Mental Health provides a unique opportunity for an individual to work as part of the leadership team to develop and deliver an innovative model of care that integrates world class clinical care, research and teaching dedicated to mental health.

Reporting to the Program Director the role will at times act for the Program Director during periods of absence and attend key leadership meetings on behalf of the program.

The Service Director role will be fulltime with a negotiated clinical fraction.

About You

You will be responsible for below key areas-

  • Lead a stream of clinical services including line management of unit directors within that stream (Adult and Older Adult)
  • Ensure the Program quality and safety risks are identified and a plan is in place to mitigate such risks
  • Work with the Program leadership to implement necessary changes and improve patient experience
  • Develop and oversee a medical workforce development and wellbeing plan.
  • Identify options and take necessary action to improve speciality and vocational training
  • Contribute to and where appropriate lead major clinical and redesign projects such as the design and/or commissioning of new facilities, improvements in patient experience, addressing poor performance against organizational KPIs as it applies to the Program.

What you need:

  • A medical qualification from a registered tertiary institution and Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with a current practicing ce
  • Extensive management experience within a large, complex healthcare or other relevant organisation at a senior level
  • Fellowship of the RANZCP or equivalent
  • Higher research degree (MD, PhD) and/or Postgraduate qualification in health service management desirable
