What does the business unit do?

The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) delivers a justice and community safety system that works to build a safer, fairer and stronger Victoria.

Data, Digital and Insights (DDI) focuses on meeting the departments data and digital needs by providing responsive and sustainable services focused on supporting departmental outcomes. The specialist groups within DDI consist of Technology Solutions and Evidence and Insights. 

Technology Solutions explores and employs modern technology to enable the department's business to function via the use of modern, appropriate platforms, products and services.

Evidence and Insights leads the DJCS data reporting, analytics and modelling program, outcomes measurement and evaluation services. It includes the Crime Statistics Agency and National Coronial Information System.

What will the role do?

The SharePoint Developer participates in the design and delivery of digital and online projects, products and applications to meet the changing needs of business units. They also ensure that the specification and design of new applications, major application enhancements and bug-fixes meet the defined business needs, align with enterprise and solution architectures and complies to standards.

What skills should a SharePoint Developer have?

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Understanding and demonstrated use of a range of digital and online design and development tools, including the use of recognised and emerging technologies.
  • Proficiency across the Department of Justice development environment including the below:
    • SharePoint development patterns and SharePoint object model (e.g. SSOM, CSOM, JSOM, PnP)
    • SharePoint development frameworks (e.g. SPFx, React)
    • Web tools and technologies (e.g. HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, SOAP, REST, AJAX, jQuery)
    • Server-side tools and languages (e.g. C#, VB.NET)
    • SharePoint administration and automation using PowerShell scripts
    • Understanding of database environments (e.g. SQL, MySQL, Azure SQL) and query language.
    • Knowledge of relevant Microsoft 365 SaaS products (e.g. Power Automate, Power Apps, Teams).
    • Familiar with CI/CD tools (e.g. Azure DevOps, VSTS).
    • Experience using source code control and multi-branch environments (e.g. Git, GitHub, VSTS, Azure DevOps).
    • Knowledge of a range of software development methodologies including Waterfall, Iterative and Agile based methodologies (such as Scrum, TDD and XP).
    • Knowledge of systems analysis and design.
    • A relevant business or ICT Tertiary qualification would be highly regarded.
    • Appropriate project, software development and operations management vocational certifications would be very highly regarded.
