Sheriff's Officer - Expression of Interest

IT'S IMPORTANT WORK

Your role as a sheriff's officer is to help people who have outstanding warrants , or court orders to meet their legal obligations. We engage with people or companies who may:

  • have years of unpaid traffic fines
  • have a civil debt owing as a result of a VCAT/court hearing outcome
  • require service of documents, for example, summons
  • have failed to appear in court as required

Your job as a sheriff's officer is to resolve these situations. It's rewarding to get the right outcomes but it's important to do it the right way. Our objective is to have people feel as positive as possible about the outcome and that they were part of the solution.

It starts with having the empathy to acknowledge the challenging situation these people are in, while staying focused on the outcome you're there to achieve. Then it's about how well you communicate the reason for your visit, the outcome you're there to achieve and how you work with them on a way to finalise the matter on the spot.

There are many aspects to our work as sheriff's officers. We work with a wide range of people, no two days are ever the same and your plans can change pretty quickly. This is what makes our time at work so interesting – but it means you need to enjoy variety and change.

To be informed of upcoming sheriff's officer recruitment campaigns at your preferred locations, please complete and submit this Expression of Interest form.
