Social Worker 


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Grade 3 Social Worker to join the Social Work team at Latrobe Regional Hospital on a Full Time Ongoing basis.


Reporting to the Social Work Manager the successful applicant will play an important role in supporting our patients/clients with the psychosocial support required to cope with chronic or acute illness.


The successful applicant will be required to:



  • Manage a complex caseload, focusing on optimising psychosocial outcomes with a patient focused, discharge planning framework;

  • Provide Social Work clinical expertise and knowledge to guide Social Work staff and Social Work students.

  • Deputise for the Social Work Manager, as required.

  • Advocate for families and clients to resolve crises;

  • Supervise Social Work staff and Social Work students on placement.

  • Make appropriate referrals to community agencies to assist consumers in their recovery, including ensuring service efficacy; and

  • Accurately monitor, evaluate and record client progress according to reach measurable goals.

  • Participate in yearly Social Work Quality Assurance projects.

  • Participate in relevant internal and external meetings, advising on and promoting the Social Work professional perspective.

  • Demonstrate positive leadership in alignment with Latrobe Regional Hospital’s Shared Vision, Core Values and Strategic Direction.

  • A willingness to rotate through all nominated Social Work wards.


To be successful in this position you will need to have:



  • A Bachelor Degree in Social Work and eligibility for membership to the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW);

  • A minimum of 7 years Social Work practice knowledge;

  • The ability to demonstrate value based and positive leadership, in alignment with Latrobe Regional Hospital’s Shared Vision, Core Values and Strategic Direction.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with complex patient and client matters, their families and navigate complex service delivery models;

  • The ability to manage and appropriately prioritise a complex clinical caseload within sound psycho-social frameworks.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide supervision to Social Work staff and Social Work students.

  • Significant experience of working with issues associated with disability, health and wellness and a demonstrated ability to provide timely intervention on the impact of these illnesses on our patients, clients and their families;

  • Commitment to advocating for and being sensitive to issues pertaining to an array of clients from varied cultural and diverse backgrounds;

  • A significant knowledge of Social Work Theory to practice with a demonstrated understanding of the social determinants of health, crisis intervention, loss and grief recovery focused care; and

  • A commintment to patients centred care, working together within a multi-discpiliary team.
