Monash Children’s Hospital is one of Australia’s leading providers of integrated children’s health services, with more than 30 specialist services and programs. We have Victoria’s largest Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and provide leading paediatric services in many areas including Paediatric Intensive Care, Rehabilitation & Oncology.

This Social Work role is based within the Monash Children’s Allied Health department providing specialised services to the oncology population. This is a parental leave replacement position, available until April 2022.

A bit about the role

As the paediatric Grade 2 Social Worker at Monash Children’s Hospital you will collaborate with colleagues across the paediatric acute, subacute and community sectors to foster clinical excellence and consistency of practice within the service. You will provide social work services to oncology patients in a variety of settings. You will have a good knowledge of resources and have a good understanding of the assessment and intervention frameworks used to guide practice including the Children’s Youth and Families Act and appropriate referral networks. You will be able to demonstrate skills in psycho-social assessments, problem solving, communication and discharge planning. You will develop and maintain strong links your Monash Health social work colleagues. You will be a dynamic, innovative and flexible practitioner and will receive regular supervision from highly experienced social work supervisors.

You will be required to participate in the after-hours on call and within hours Emergency Department rosters at Monash Health and be expected to work across sites within Monash Health as required.

What we’re looking for in you

• A relevant social work qualification


• Eligible for AASW membership


• Minimum 2 years’ social work experience preferably in an acute health care setting and/or with children and families

• Desirable – experience in oncology, experience working with Child Protection

Location

The role will be based at Monash Children’s Hospital which is a recently purpose built facility adjacent to Monash Medical Centre. Travel may be required to other Monash Health locations.
