SOLICITOR - Wage Inspectorate
Wage Inspectorate Victoria (Wage Inspectorate) is an independent statutory authority and Victorian Government regulator that provides information on and enforces Victorian industrial relations laws to protect workers and improve our state's workplaces. Wage Inspectorate monitors compliance with, and enforces laws covering wage theft, child employment, long service leave and independent contractors in the transport and forestry sectors.
This position is responsible for the delivery of high quality and timely services, including advice, research, and analysis of legal and policy issues relating to the functions and powers of the Wage Inspectorate. The Solicitor works across a broad range of legal practice areas, involving employment and workplace law, criminal law, administrative law and corporate governance. Further, the Solicitor conducts prosecutions on behalf of the Wage Inspectorate, appearing at administrative hearings under supervision and summary matters as appropriate, and briefing and instructing counsel in matters involving summary and indictable prosecutions and administrative review.
The Solicitor plays an important role in the Wage Inspectorate's legal team, contributing to the development, maintenance and continuous improvement of team systems, processes, and procedures. The role also contributes to the building of knowledge in key areas of legal practice such as the exercise of statutory powers, rules of evidence and procedures, compliance, and enforcement.
The position reports to the Special Counsel and undertakes a wide variety of legal work across the legal team under the supervision.
