An exciting opportunity exists for a Team Leader of Student Support Services (SSS) working within the Inner Gippsland Area Team. The successful applicant will be a highly self-motivated team player providing guidance and leadership to a multi-disciplinary team of SSS employees delivering support to schools in the provision of student wellbeing services to improve student learning outcomes. The role requires a level of flexibility and an ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to manage and lead a team of experienced professionals in the delivery of initiatives in an educational environment.

  • Location: Inner Gippsland (based at Leongatha Office, required to work across Inner Gippsland Area)

This position plays a key role in contributing to a multi-disciplinary approach in both the identification of learning barriers and the contribution of wellbeing strategies and services in schools through an area approach.

The purpose of Student Support Services is to assist children and young people facing a range of barriers to learning to achieve their educational and developmental potential through the provision of a range of strategies and specialised support at individual, group, school and network levels. SSS are well placed to:

  • build the capability of teachers to deal with issues commonly exhibited by vulnerable students
  • provide effective guidance, advice and support to principals to manage and deliver wellbeing strategies
  • balance the delivery of assessments, interventions and building capability to manage complex cases

Student Support Services comprise a broad range of professionals including psychologists, speech pathologists, social workers. SSS work as part of an integrated Health and Wellbeing and Inclusion Workforce (HWIW) within the area, focusing on providing group based and individual support, workforce capability building, and the provision of specialised services supporting:

  • the delivery of quality universal services for all students, with extra effort directed to ensuring education and health and wellbeing services are accessible to, and inclusive of, the most vulnerable and disadvantaged
  • target the delivery of individual support services to those who require specialised expertise, assessment and intervention in order to overcome barriers to learning
  • develop the capability of schools to design health, learning, development and wellbeing strategies that focus on improving education and health and wellbeing outcomes
  • collaborate with multidisciplinary professional practice teams and build partnerships with community services to meet the needs of schools and students and their health, wellbeing and learning goals
  • respond to critical incidents involving students, staff and school communities.

Reporting to the Student Support Services (SSS) Branch Manager, you will be an important part of the branch leadership team.

Our teams are located in Moe, Warragul and Leongatha so you will be required to do some travelling; you will have access to fleet cars and technology to allow you to connect with colleagues and clients across the broad landscape of Inner Gippsland.

To be eligible to apply you must have a current Working with Children's check, drivers' licence plus one of the following:

- Full registration as a psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency (AHPRA).

- Membership with Speech Pathology Australia (SPA).

- Membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
