About the Opportunity

The Department of Transport is a referral planning authority and the Statutory Planning Team is located within the Metropolitan North West team in Sunshine and the CBD. The Team considers planning permit applications referred to it by the responsible planning authority. The team analyses the impacts of land use development on the safety and operation of arterial roads and the public transport network and responds via permit conditions and other agreed outcomes. The Team takes an active role in shaping the road network during the expansive growth Melbourne is experiencing

About You

As our ideal candidate, you will be able to contribute to a dynamic, technically oriented team, with team members located in Sunshine and the CBD, focused on providing excellent customer service and outcomes for the Department of Transport, the responsible planning authority, the applicant and the community. The ideal candidate shall be a competent problem solver and able to negotiate outcomes where limited precedence has been set. A strong ability to create networks within and external to the Department is highly desirable.

As a Statutory Referral Planner, you will be able to:

  • Assess and respond to planning permits referred to the Department of Transport by the responsible authority
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to achieve quality transportation network outcomes
  • Provide outcomes when limited technical guidance or precedence exists
  • Negotiate outcomes with applicants and stakeholders
  • Represent the Department of Transport at VCAT or at Planning Panels
