Fixed term – 12 months – VPS4 Supervising Registrar Role - Family Violence Contact Centre - Melbourne CBD

The Family Violence Contact Centre (contact centre) has been established in response to a recommendation of the Royal Commission into Family Violence. Already highly successful, the Contact Centre provides a responsive service to family violence victim survivors, and relieves the extensive administrative burden experienced by FV registrars. This is resulting in improved workflow and increased efficiencies in Court operations for participating courts.

There is an opportunity to join the Contact Centre in the Supervising Registrar role for a 12 month fixed term, supporting the team that currently service 10 court locations around the state.

The primary responsibility of the Supervising Registrar is to lead the team responding to family violence related queries within the Magistrates' Courts (both phone and email).  The Supervising Registrar operates within a complex, demanding and sensitive environment that requires the capacity to exercise sound judgement. The Supervising Registrar provides an escalation point for Contact Centre staff and Family Violence staff across Courts to assist with parties to understand court processes and services available and liaise with support services.

In order to provide effective service delivery, the role requires an expertise in supervising teams in complex environment and an understanding of the operating environment and needs of Victorian courts and court users.

As a qualified Registrar, the Supervising Registrar will be required to exercise powers conferred under the Magistrates' Court Act 1989, the National Domestic Violence Order Scheme Act and any other relevant act and Rules.  These powers involve the preparation and processing of administrative and statutory documentation and the exercise of discretionary quasi-judicial and statutory powers using professional judgement in applying legislative requirements, established rules and precedents and the Court's Practice Directions.
