About the branch

This position will be employed by the Regional Services Division within Northern Victoria Region, who is coordinating implementation of the RSA on behalf of Parks Victoria. The Region is responsible for the service delivery of initiatives, programs and services. On-ground works and services will conserve environments, protect culture and heritage, manage visitor facilities and improve opportunities and support fire and emergency management.

The Recognition and Settlement Agreement (RSA) between Taungurung Land and Waters Council Aboriginal Corporation (TLaWC) and the State of Victoria, under Victoria's Traditional Owner Settlement Act 2010, recognises the Taungurung People as the Traditional Owners of over 2 million hectares of land and waters in central Victoria. As part of the RSA, approximately 769,923 hectares of public land has been transferred to TLaWC under Aboriginal Title, to be jointly managed with the State. The RSA extends across Parks Victoria's Northern and Eastern Regions, and to a lesser degree, Melbourne and Western Regions .

About the role and your responsibilities:  

As the Taungurung Land Use Activity Agreement (LUAA) Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for providing advice and support to district, regional and corporate teams in relation to Land Use Activity Agreements (LUAAs) to ensure that park activities are compliant with legislation, policy and guidelines. 

In this role you will perform a variety of tasks including consultation with traditional owners of the Taungurung people, community groups, Parks Victoria and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with Taungurung aspirations in accordance with the Taungurung Recognition and Settlement Agreement and Land Use Activity Agreement process. You will build strong relationships with line managers, staff and key stakeholders across the organisation and ensure that the Northern and Eastern Regions are compliant with LUAA processes (Governance and Legal Obligations).

To be successful for this role you will need:

  • A tertiary qualification in land management and/or equivalent experience in a similar field is desirable, or
  • A lesser formal qualification in Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Management together with demonstrated relevant practical experience in a regulatory environment or other relevant role.
  • Demonstrated effective stakeholder management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in provision of expert and technical advice and support, particularly demonstrating pertaining and to securing outcomes consistent with traditional owners acknowledged expectations.
  • A current employee Working with Children Check is required.
