About the role


The Adult Mental Health Program is looking for the right person to take on the role of Team Leader for both the Eastern Dual Diagnosis Service and the Mental Health Social and Emotional Well Being Team.


This role will provide clinical and administrative leadership to Dual Diagnosis, Mental Health Social and Emotional Well being clinicians, Trainees and Lived Experience roles and the broad range of associated activities. 


Key areas of focus will include leadership support for Eastern Health Mental Health Services:


To engage in the delivery of integrated treatment practices for the spectrum of co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns in all interventions for consumers and their families/carers where these concerns are present.



To achieve the aim of strengthening clinical care and pathways to facilitate improved, supported, and culturally appropriate access to recovery-oriented mental health services for the Aboriginal communities in the Eastern Metropolitan Region


You will play an integral role in supporting the connection and development of collaborative working relationships with Aboriginal Controlled Organisations/Aboriginal focused services and alcohol and other drug services to mental health services.



The successful applicants will have experience in leading clinical service delivery in mental health settings and in the provision of recovery care.



About you 


To be successful in this role you will possess:


Experience and skills



  • Specialist knowledge of the issues and complications arising with the assessment and management of consumers experiencing co-occurring mental health and substance use problems.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide a range of clinical services at a high standard, including specialist assessments and therapeutic interventions, to people with a serious mental illness and a serious substance use disorder.

  • A sound knowledge of the principles and practices of clinical service delivery in mental health settings and drug and alcohol treatment settings.

  • Interest or experience in working with Aboriginal people experiencing mental health problems.

  • Desire to support Aboriginal people to engage with Aboriginal Controlled Organizations and mainstream health services.

  • Possess knowledge of Closing the Health Gap, Bait Murrup Aboriginal social and emotional wellbeing framework 2017–2027, Korin Korin Balit-Djak Aboriginal health, wellbeing and safety strategic plan 2017–2027, Our Healing Ways strategy and guidelines documents, Gayaa Dhuwi Declaration.

  • Understanding of the intent of the Royal Commission into Mental Health recommendations addressing the integration of mental health and alcohol and drug responses within clinical mental health services and the enhancement of culturally appropriate treatment and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. 

  • Demonstrated understanding of harm reduction as a key concept underpinning approaches to client care in the Australian alcohol and drug sector

  • Understanding and appreciation of the principles of recovery, including social connectedness, holistic care provision and peer based examples of wellness

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation (including Mental Health Act), related policy and an awareness of current trends in service delivery.

  • Experience in the delivery of therapeutic groups and group activities.

  • Experience in working with consumers and carers in the planning and delivery of interventions.

  • Specialist knowledge of the issues relating to being an agent of change within organisational settings including knowledge of capacity building and service development.

  • Ability to liaise and consult with a broad range of health professionals, community agencies and organizations.

  • Ability to provide a senior clinical role and delivering supervision to multidisciplinary staff in relation to complex clinical issues.

  • Highly developed leadership and organisational skills

  • Ability and capacity to supervise and support junior staff and/or students.

  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Well-developed interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.

  • Well-developed written and presentation skills.

  • Current Victorian Driver’s licence.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in computer skills.

  • A satisfactory Police Check is required prior to appointment.
