Technical Assistant

  • $53,280 – $68,421 (Plus Superannuation)
  • Casual – 12 months

Your Role

This position will fulfil a key role at Horsham, Victoria for the Victorian Grains Innovation Partnership, a joint initiative between Agriculture Victoria (AV) and the Grains Research Development Corporation. We require a Technical Assistant to assist with the conduct of high-quality field trials aimed at identifying alternative legume species for application to farming systems in Western Victoria. The incumbent will assist in the sowing and harvest of field trials at local and remote sites as well as routine collection and processing of plant and soil samples. The successful applicant will work under the guidance of AV senior technicians and scientists and will be provided with relevant training as required. They will need to be self-motivated, well organised, able to learn new tasks, complete them with minimal supervision and able to problem solve.

Your Skills

  • Ability to assist with running high quality field trials, including sowing, harvesting, collection and processing of plant and soil samples.
  • Capability to learn and utilise a range of machinery and equipment following established safety procedures.
  • An ability and willingness to learn and undertake routine tasks and then work independently to complete them.
  • Attention to detail when undertaking routine tasks to ensure that issues are identified and seeking assistance to resolve such issues.
  • Good communication skills to effectively work in a diverse team and interact with a range of people.
