Technical Assistant

  • $54,755 - $70,315 (Plus Superannuation)
  • Casual - 12 months
  • Usual hours of work: Casual (flexibility may be available)
  • Usual work location: Bundoora (flexibility may be available)

Reporting to the Senior Project Officer, the key accountabilities of the role include:

  • Assist in the preparation of growth media to support research activities.
  • Provide general laboratory assistance as directed by the Senior Project Officer.
  • Assist with the purchase of consumables, inventory management and stocking of storeroom.
  • Manage electronic and hard copy databases for all media and stocks prepared, tracking data trends for input, output, and rates of interest (i.e. contamination levels, return frequencies).
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and document workflow procedures according to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Adopt and apply OH&S policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Contribute to a group culture of achievement.

The successful incumbent will play a critical role in ensuring effective, accurate, reliable service delivery and will be expected to maintain accurate records, track in-coming requests and out-going deliveries and document workflow procedures according to Standard Operating Procedures.

The position of Technical Assistant forms a part of the Agriculture Victoria Research branch within the Agriculture Victoria group.

The Agriculture Victoria Research Branch represents DJPR's agricultural research and development function. The Agriculture Research Branch provides a discipline-based science and technology delivery function in the following areas: a) Genomics and Cellular Sciences; b) Microbial Sciences, Pests and Diseases; c) Plant Sciences; d) Plant Production Sciences; e) Animal Production Sciences; and f) Agriculture Resources Sciences.
