In this role you will be responsible for providing technical advice, overseeing specialised professional research and influencing changes to standards and specifications to increase the use of recycled materials in transport projects. The technical manager will also be responsible for collaboration across government and industry on technical matters.

Role Summary

Ecologiq is for people in the Victorian infrastructure industry who want their work to have a greener purpose. Our circular economy plan makes sustainably built projects the new normal through the way we lead and act. Ecologiq aims to ensure the infrastructure industry utilises the unprecedented investment in infrastructure to increase the use of recycled and reused materials.

The Technical Manager is a key member of the Ecologiq program and will lead technical reforms, interventions and research partnerships to increase use of reused and recycled materials across the MTIA (and DoT) portfolio. Success in this role means embedding this approach as a ‘new normal' in infrastructure delivery.  

Reporting to the Ecologiq Director, you will be responsible for providing technical advice, overseeing specialised professional research and influencing changes to standards and specifications to increase the use of recycled materials in transport projects.  The technical manager will also be responsible for collaboration across government and industry on technical matters. 

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the Technical work stream within the Ecologiq program to deliver excellent quality and timely specialised technical advice, as well as disseminate collective knowledge on driving the uptake of recycled content in road and rail infrastructure projects.
  • Applying well-developed understanding of technical and commercial requirements for road and rail infrastructure including in relation to standards and specifications.
  • Engage proactively with industry and research organisations to build collaborative relationships.
  • Lead collaboration on technical matters and gain input across MTIA, DoT, DELWP, SV, V/line and MTM into whole of government specification reform, working with delivery partners to achieve government outcomes.
  • Driving change and innovation in a complex environment to influence the establishment of priority use of recycled materials within transport infrastructure.
  • Provide leadership and direction to other technical specialists and/or contractors as required.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across organisations, partners and stakeholders to influence outcomes and achieve goals.
  • Well-developed understanding of transport standards and specifications and the application of recycled and reused materials in transport infrastructure.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated strong project management experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to circular economy principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to deliver timely advice to a high standard with minimal supervision.
  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering or Science is mandatory.
