  • Annual Salary Range: VPS3 - $68,884 - $83,640 + super

About the Team

Eastern Region is part of Regional Surface Transport within the Department of Transport responsible for integrated transport solutions in Regional Victoria. Eastern Region manages the bus and arterial road networks in Gippsland. This role is part of the planning team responsible for a variety of tasks such as Statutory Planning, Project Planning, Road Safety and Traffic Engineering to ensure we continue to provide safer and more efficient transport networks for our communities across Gippsland. Only two hours from Melbourne, Gippsland has a relaxed community feel and boasts many natural attractions like beaches, national parks, lakes and snowfields. With a range of primary/ secondary school options, sporting clubs and diverse community, Gippsland is an ideal location to live, work and visit.

About the Opportunity

The Traffic Engineer/Officer, will be involved in a range of activities including:


  • traffic management and road safety advice


  • transport planning for network and road safety improvements


  • stakeholder and public engagement


  • project management


  • external work approvals

Key priorities of this varied role include:


  • Developing solutions and responses to moderately complex transport planning, road safety and traffic engineering issues.


  • Providing timely and sound advice to the community and a range of stakeholders


  • Apply engineering and safe system competence to investigate road crashes in accordance with DoT policies and procedures


  • Preparation of recommendations on possible road safety improvements and influencing transport project outcomes


  • Review of external work approvals 

About You

We are seeking applications from those who possess:


  • A tertiary qualification in a related Engineering discipline with at least 3 years' experience in traffic engineering/management 


  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated exposure in building stakeholder relationships


  • Strong problem-solving ability particularly in developing innovative solutions to ongoing road safety issues


  • An understanding of transport planning, road safety and traffic engineering principles, standards and guidelines


  • A positive can-do attitude coupled with a willingness to work collaboratively as part of a multi-discipline team


  • A desire to learn, develop and advance with an iconic employer brand
