Expressions of Interest Sought for the role of:

Visiting Orthopaedic Surgeon

Expressions of interest are now being sought from Orthopaedic Surgeons interested in providing a monthly consulting and theatre service at Bairnsdale Regional Health Service (BRHS).  This is an exciting opportunity, with the potential capacity to expand the current service model, making a significant difference to our community who otherwise need to travel many hours for Orthopaedic care.

The Position:

The successful Orthopaedic Surgeon will provide a one-day per month (currently a Thursday) consulting session through a private fee for service model onsite at the BRHS Consulting rooms; and a one-day per month (currently a Friday) operating list.

The BRHS Orthopaedic Scope of Practice includes most minor orthopaedics, arthroscopy, hand surgery, shoulder reconstruction etc, and can potentially be tailored to an area of interest, however joint replacement surgery is unable to be facilitated at this time.

  • A team of experienced local GP Anaesthetists (GPA's) provide anaesthetic services. The current anaesthetic Scope of Practice for BRHS limits all anaesthetic procedures to patients with a BMI <40. BRHS offer a pre-admissions clinic service for higher risk patients. Patients requiring admission post Orthopaedic surgery, will be admitted under a joint bed card with the GPA present at the surgery.
  • BRHS has comprehensive onsite Radiology Services including Xray, CT, MRI, Echo and Ultrasound
  • Pathology Services are provided onsite by Dorevitch Pathology

Selection Criteria:

  • Current Orthopaedic specialist registration with AHPRA
  • A proven track record of providing an Orthopaedic consulting and operative service and a genuine interest in delivering this in East Gippsland
