The Victorian Ombudsman (VO) is currently seeking applications from candidates with sound judgement and strong analytical skills to fill multiple Senior Investigation Officer (SIO) positions. These roles will assist the office in resolving complaints raised about the administrative actions and decisions of jurisdictional Victorian Public Sector bodies.

The Victorian Ombudsman (VO) is currently seeking applications from candidates with sound judgment and strong analytical skills to fill multiple Senior Investigation Officer (SIO) positions.

These roles will assist the office in resolving complaints raised about the administrative actions and decisions of jurisdictional Victorian Public Sector bodies.

  • VPS 5.1 $101,120 - $111,734
  • VPS 5.2 $111,736 - $122,348
  • Ongoing and max Fixed-Term (12 month end mid-late July 2022)

Who we are: 
We're the Victorian Ombudsman. Our office provides a free, independent, accessible and impartial service to all Victorians. Our purpose is to ensure fairness for Victorians in their dealings with the public sector, to improve public administration and to foster confidence in the integrity of the sector.

You will bring to this opportunity a mix of experience in:

  • Supporting and conducting complex enquiries and investigations, including protected disclosure complaints and/or, manage small teams to do so;
  • Providing authoritative advice, reasoned recommendations and solutions to complex and sensitive matters received by the Ombudsman, particularly in the area of Human Rights;
  • Influencing negotiations with stakeholders to advance organisational goals;
  • Participating in the identification and conduct of ‘own motion' investigations into systemic issues across public sector agencies;
  • Project and/or investigation management or similar;
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders and liaise with public sector agencies in the course of investigations and in pursuit of the Ombudsman's goals;
  • Participating in the continuous improvement of investigation practice and procedures, including through quality assurance activities and policy development;
  • Actively contributing to other core functions of the office, including community outreach, portfolio activities, internal and external training and projects;
  • Operating with an increased level of autonomy and accountability
  • Influencing negotiations with stakeholders and providing innovative solutions
  • Provide leadership, guidance and advice based on advanced expertise.
