At the Department of Justice and Community Safety, we’re looking for people who want to make a difference. People who take pride in their work. People who get things done. People who are committed to making Victoria a safer place.

We embrace diversity and strive to have a workforce that reflects the community we serve. We’re all about recruiting the best people, regardless of gender, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation or cultural background. If you think you can do the job and would be a good fit for our department, we’d love to hear from you.

The department is committed to the safety and wellbeing of children and recognises that children’s rights need to be respected, their views welcomed and valued, and their concerns taken seriously and acted upon.

Youth justice workers escorting young person

Are you interested in becoming a youth justice worker?

We are not currently recruiting new youth justice workers, but we will be soon! We regularly open applications for fresh staff at our Malmsbury and Parkville youth justice precincts, and this is where you can sign up to be notified when a campaign next opens.

You don't have to have a social work qualification, or be experienced in youth work, to do this job well. Great youth justice workers come from all sorts of backgrounds, including retail, hospitality, healthcare, trades and government. You might be surprised by how your work and life experience has set you up perfectly for this role.

The safety and security of all people in our facilities is the number one priority, but our core ambition is still to support young people to develop the confidence, perspectives, behaviours and skills that will enable them to become positive contributors when they return to their communities.

COVID-19 has altered the way people the world over live and work. However, youth justice workers are essential frontline workers, and while many new health and safety precautions have been instituted in our youth justice precincts, our staff continue to do their important work every day. It's not a job that can be done from home and it's not a job that can stop. That means these are secure roles that you can build a life around.

If you have other questions about becoming a youth justice worker, or the recruitment process, feel free to get in touch via yjcsrecruitment@justice.vic.gov.au

The department is committed to providing and maintaining a working environment which is safe and without risk to the health of its employees consistent with the department's obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic).

Therefore, there is a requirement that all DJCS employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to undertake duties outside of their homes. Prior to commencement of employment with the department you will need to provide evidence that you are vaccinated against COVID-19. Acceptable evidence includes:

1. COVID-19 digital certificate (available via your myGov account)

2. Your immunisation history statement (available via your myGov account) or

3. A letter from the GP who vaccinated you.To learn more about what you'll do on the job, as well as the physical requirements, click here
