The Department of Education and Training is offering incentives to attract teachers to Victorian government schools.
Become a Teacher in a Victorian Government School
The Victorian Government is funding targeted initiatives to attract more teachers. The $41.7 million funding boost aims to attract excellent teachers to fill hard-to-staff positions in government schools across the state. It also provides support to teachers settling into their new roles. In addition, teachers who stay in the position for two years or longer may be eligible for retention payments.
Applications
Applications are now open for the next round of positions to commence within the 2020-21 Financial Year.
Positions available
Financial incentives are available in rural, regional and metropolitan schools with hard-to-fill positions.
Vacancies include:
- Certain hard-to-staff subjects
- Positions in rural areas
- Roles in schools with a proportion of disadvantaged students
Qualifications or experience
Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
Personal qualities
Teachers need strong verbal, literacy and cognitive abilities to do their job well. Research indicates that good teachers also demonstrate these attributes:
- Motivation to teach.
- Interpersonal and communication skills.
- Willingness to learn.
- Resilience.
- Self-efficacy.
- Conscientiousness.
- Organisational and planning skills.
