Join the 2021 Victorian Government graduate program

Our graduates do real work that shapes the role of government and improves the lives of Victorians.

The Victorian Government provides a diverse range of services to the people of Victoria – schools, hospitals, transport, parks, police, tourism, the environment and more.

There are so many career opportunities within the Victorian Government. If you are just starting out, your perfect career may be much more than you were expecting.

What’s in it for you

Our graduates rotate through 3 different roles in 3 different departments. Throughout the 12-month program, graduates learn and grow with mentors, peer networks and training.

A business graduate could be the perfect candidate for auditing or policymaking. Law and engineering graduates have skills that are often sought on infrastructure projects. An arts degree provides a broad range of skills, including conceptual skills, writing, and research that are needed across the public service.

There are endless opportunities for every degree within the Victorian Government.

Who we’re looking for

You’ll have completed your undergraduate or postgraduate degree or the same as level 7 and above of the Australian Qualifications Framework between 1 January 2018 and 1 January 2021.

For applicants seeking to enter the program in one of the specialty streams, there are subject pre-requisites. These apply to the Law and Project delivery streams. There are no subject pre-requisites for the Generalist stream.

For all applicants, we look for strengths in verbal and written communication; problem solving and analytics; adaptability and resilience; as well as teamwork and stakeholder engagement.

Applicants must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, an Australia permanent resident or have unrestricted working rights for ongoing work and not be on a temporary graduate visa.

If you think a career in the public service is something to be proud of, then we want to hear from you.

We’re less interested in your grade point average and more interested in who you are. We want people who are creative, curious, have a drive to learn and live our shared values of integrity, respect and human rights.

Victoria’s strength is in its diversity of backgrounds and lived experience, so we want graduates that reflect the community we serve.

If you’re an applicant with disability or identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, then check out the pathways you can opt into.
